Isaac del Toro delivered a commanding performance on the Grand Colombier to claim victory in Stage 7 of the Tour Auvergne – Rhône-Alpes. The UAE Team Emirates rider from Mexico launched a decisive attack in the final five kilometers of the brutal mountain stage to secure his first win of the race.
Decisive Attack on Grand Colombier
The 133.6-kilometer stage from La Bridoire culminated with the fearsome Grand Colombier ascent, featuring 8.5 kilometers at an average gradient of 10.1%. Del Toro timed his move perfectly, accelerating away from the leading group in the closing stages of the climb to cross the line solo atop the legendary French summit.
Overall Classification Remains Tight
Despite the stage victory, del Toro moved up to third place in the general classification but could not challenge race leader Luke Tuckwell’s position. Tuckwell successfully defended his yellow jersey and maintains a 42-second advantage over second-placed Matteo Jorgenson heading into the final week of racing.
Drama in the Peloton
The stage was not without incident, as Paul Seixas suffered a crash during the day’s racing. The rider managed to rejoin the peloton despite losing valuable time, demonstrating the resilience required in this challenging mountain terrain of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
Del Toro’s victory marks a significant moment for UAE Team Emirates in what has been a fiercely contested edition of the French stage race. With the Grand Colombier conquered, attention now turns to the remaining stages as the battle for overall victory intensifies.
