Schmid Outsprints Tejada for Stage Victory

Mauro Schmid of Team Jayco AlUla claimed his first Tour de France stage victory, edging out Harold Tejada of XDS Astana Team in a sprint finish. The duo broke away from the leading group in the final 16 kilometers, with Schmid timing his sprint perfectly to take the win. Tom Pidcock of Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team rounded out the podium in third place, finishing two seconds behind the winner.

Breakaway Dominates Challenging Stage

The stage featured a massive breakaway of 57 riders that formed during the early kilometers, including eventual podium finisher Tom Pidcock. The British rider demonstrated his climbing prowess by cresting the Ballon d’Alsace first, but couldn’t match the finishing speed of Schmid and Tejada in the finale. The large gap between the breakaway and peloton allowed the escapees to contest the stage victory without pressure from the main field.

General Classification Remains Stable

Del Toro’s consistent performance keeps him well-positioned in eighth place overall, now 5:08 behind race leader Tadej Pogacar. The Mexican climber’s ability to stay with the peloton on this transitional stage maintains his strong GC position heading into the crucial mountain stages ahead. With the peloton arriving together 7:32 behind the stage winner, no significant changes occurred in the overall standings among the main contenders.
